When it comes to Derby events, Louisville knows how to celebrate with flairโand this year, Michaelis Events and Catering was proud to produce a one-of-a-kind experience that brought fresh sophistication to a timeless tradition. Hosted at the iconic Frazier History Museum, this corporate event was anything but ordinary.
Designed for a client seeking something elevated and unexpected, our team of event planners, designers, florists, and chefs collaborated to deliver a bold, fashion-forward celebration that wowed every guest in attendance.
A New Look for Derby: Floral & Dรฉcor That Broke the Mold
Our event floral and decor team was tasked with reimagining Derby styleโstepping away from traditional red roses and lilies and instead embracing a modern palette of pinks, oranges, and vibrant greens. The result? A stunning atmosphere that channeled the energy of spring and the boldness of Derby fashion.
Centerpieces featured seasonal florals accented with gold-toned vessels, perfectly echoing the floral-forward couture showcased during the Derby fashion show. Tables were dressed to impress with luxe touches: custom-selected chinaware, dusky blue carousel goblets, amber cocktail glasses, gold flatware, and beautifully tied napkins paired with personalized place cards.
The bar dรฉcor effortlessly mirrored the upscale tablescapes while bringing in classic Derby charm with a vintage bourbon barrel barโa perfect blend of tradition and trend.

A Taste of Derby: Curated Cocktails & Small Plates
As guests arrived, they were treated to an elevated cocktail hour featuring beautiful charcuterie boards filled with artisan cheeses, cured meats, seasonal fruits, and gourmet accompaniments. Passed hors d’oeuvres made their rounds, with favorites including savory mini chicken and waffle bitesโa fun and flavorful nod to Southern roots.
This warm and welcoming start set the tone for an evening of indulgence and impeccable hospitality.
Multi-Course Culinary Experience by Michaelis Events and Catering
Dinner was served as a custom-designed small plate tasting menu crafted by Michaelis Events and Catering, showcasing our signature balance of local inspiration and refined presentation:
- First Course: Kentucky Bibb Salad with mandarin oranges, fresh strawberries, gorgonzola cheese, bourbon candied pecans, and apple cider vinaigrette.
- Second Course: Petite filet over creamy parmesan grits, finished with tri-colored long-stem carrots.
- Third Course: Verlasso salmon with compound butter, risotto, and crispy Brussels sprouts glazed in balsamic sorghum.
- Fourth Course: Chocolate bourbon mousse with seasonal fresh berries and Derby pie bites for a sweet, Southern sendoff.
Each course delighted the palate and elevated the overall guest experienceโone bite at a time.
